Does iPhone use Messenger GPS Location Data?

If the Messenger device is paired with an iphone, will the iphone use the device's (Messenger) GPS coordinates if the iphone loses its own GPS signal?

I am having a bear of a time deciding between Mini 2 and Messenger because I can't figure out how reliable the iphone is in the woods. I read something from a respected gear review site that said most outdoor enthusiasts use a smartphone for GPS now.

Hello, none of our inReach products provide GPS to another device. Both devices you mentioned above though would still work without the use of a data connection. However, the messenger device does not do routes, waypoints, or create tracks to use though it does have a tracback feature and a track that can be sent out to a mapshare page.

That is not quiet right (but maybe also a matter of interpretation). If I use the Explore app on my Iphone, I can use the Mini 2 location (and I think from any compatible Garmin device) (only) for the Explore map.

The Explore app has a setting for „prefer position of device“, (but the Messenger is not compatible with the Explore app).
