Why does my Messenger refuse to fully charge (stops at 88%)?

I am using a known good charger - it charges many other things fully, and this device to 88%. I have tried other good chargers -- same result.

The app says there are no software updates (but contradicts itself and says software update failed to load, try again -- I try again and it does not).

Any ideas?

Hello, I would like to have you try plugging the device in to your computer and updating it using Garmin Express to make sure it fully updates, which you will see it as an option in this article Updating the Software on Your inReach Messenger. Then once, you have done that, please uninstall the Messenger app. You can then reinstall it and pair your device. I would also recommend plugging the device in to a wall outlet and letting it charge for 24 hours. Once you have done that see if it charges to 100%.Charging the inReach Messenger

Thanks, that seems to have fixed the problem. After installing the software update via computer/USB cord and deleting/re-installing the app, I plugged it into the charger. At first, it seemed stuck on 89%, but then I looked away for a short bit and it was suddenly 100%

I had this issue with 88%. I performed a soft reset ... pluging garmin into pc via USB and pressing power button for 30seconds to ensure display is off and powers down. I pressed power button and now I see it charging the way I expect and at 93%. I expect it to charge to 100%.
