Thanks. Am in contact with Garmin Support, but stil no closer to a resolution. It looks to me to be a fault in the Messenger app.
Following another attempt to verify my mobile number, the Messenger app thankfully accepted it. Good things take time I guess. Thanks for your advice. Cheers

Perhaps they have sorted out something in the background or it was just a glitch? We will never know. Good that you got it to work, now!
