Messenger Battery Life

Hello   I have had the Messenger for 3 weeks now.
IT works.
But just not very well I am disappointed with it for a few reasons
Battery Life with 1 hour Tracking updates and LCD at the Lowest back Light level is maybe 2 days.
Was documented at 28 days if low Tracking Updates ?
The App on the Phone via BlueTooth is almost useless as it further drains the Messenger battery
I have Updated the Firmware and powerCysled it a number of times
What am I doing wrong

  • What is the backlight timeout interval? The shorter the better. No matter what, be sure it's not set to "always on".

If you are not using the phone app or the inReach remote (for example, on a wearable like a watch), turn those features off. The remote app is mostly broken, at least with regard to the messenger, anyway.

You also need to be aware: There is an automatic message check once an hour. This attempts to communicate with the Iridium satellites. So does tracking. If you do not have a clear view of the sky, the device will retry VERY PERSISTENTLY to reach the satellites. This is a huge battery suck. If you are testing this indoors, don't.

  • You wrote "maybe 2 days". Tried or extrapolated?

But if the battery really only lasts 2 days, I would assume hardware/battery problems, if your test was done outside. And if you have enabled 1 hr tracking interval and are not moving, the device switches automatically to a 4 hr tracking interval to save battery. Once movement is recognized it will revert back to the setting selected.
