according to the manual of the messenger, there should be an option to send mapshare.
However what ever I try, I can not find it.

Where does this show up in the manual? Sent points will be logged to MapShare automatically if MapShare is set up on your account. I do not see an option to send a message to MapShare as a recipient. Messages do not show up on MapShare unless sent directly to MapShare (as a recipient).
this is really crazy!
Incidently, my browser picked up the german version of the online manual and there it is described how to send mapshare from tracking menu
This chapter does not exist in the engl manual however
This does not describe sending a message TO the MapShare "recipient". It describes sending a message with a LINK TO your MapShare page to other recipients (whom you select). That said, I do not see this sequence of operations on the (English-language) Messenger device.
yes sure, it describes this 'follow me on mapshare' message
but this section is missing in the english manual. Either it is something what has been dropped or it is in preparation
All I know for sure is that it is not in the current Messenger f/w. This is a standard feature on every other iR device that I know about. So I would imagine it will show up on the iRM eventually.
regarding FW
some updates have been performed 'via bluetooth' already
some manuals do tell me to connect the device to computer and express (??) for updates
is this something what should work really? The device is kind of recognized by my windows10, but express does not see it. There are two settings for the usb, garmin and mass storage. none of them seems to have any real function currently.
The app tells me software uptodate
device tells me version 3.20 and no update av
3.20 is the current release.
I do not have any trouble using Express with the iRM on Win10. You want "mass storage mode". Point is to mount the device as a removable "drive", which what Express apparently expects to see.
Once mounted this way, you should be able to examine the file system with Windows Explorer. And Express should work.
I have never tried the Messenger app for update via BT. Seems like this would be painfully slow.
this is the first device I am having problem in connecting
I did set it to MPT, it sounds (windows) as being recognized, but being dropped immediately again. Neither it does appear in explorer nor the express can connect to it.
on the device itself it shows usb connection symbol, in windows device manager it is shown as unknown device and driver can not be updated...
will have to look into it
Sounds like device or cable. When I look at device manager with the device connected in MTP mode, it shows up as using Microsoft MTP drivers. No Garmin drivers involved. As expected, the connection path is down one of my USB 3.0 hubs.
it seems to work with 3.0 sockets only, my computers were bought to have usb 2.0 since satphones and similar equip can be destroyed by making FW updates on usb 3
Found one has usb3 socket, here express could be connected as well as viewing internal storage (boring)
thanks for the hint
