H1 & Bluechart Maps

Has anyone had any success using Bluechart maps with the H1, I tried when I first bought the H1, but couldn't get it to install (via Garmin Express), Garmin support couldn't help either.

That was several firmware versions ago, but Garmin support are giving conflicting answers, the website says it is compatible, but a reply from Garmin support was hedging, I wonder if its the SD card that is the problem ?

I was intending to use the H1 as a backup GPS when sailing offshore in Europe.

Yeah unfortunately I think you're going to have to get your hands on / beg / borrow a PC and run Garmin Express and the map download from there.

dfhage - Thanks for the post. What is happening when you try to install the maps? Please include what kind of SD card is being used as well as any error messages you're receiving (screenshots of those, if possible). ^DK

I haven’t actually bought the map again yet. I am intending to download and install it on its own 32GB micro SD . Before I do, can you confirm this map should work on the H1 please ?

Bought the map, tried to install , I just get a "There was an error installing the update"

Actually it would appear that Garmin Express won't install anything in the H1 at the moment. Tried 3 computers (all Mac) Intel and M1 chips, different USB cables and two different SD cards ( 1TB and 32GB) I have a feeling the problems is more fundamental ?

All out of ideas now, done all of the Garmin recommended fixes, still no luck.

Can't see the H1 series listed amongst the compatible devices for these maps.

The only compatible Garmin handheld I can see is the marine-oriented GPSMAP 86i

Understood. It's a shame Garmin aren't consistent with their compatibility charts.

Yes, they seem to be two different maps ( different reference numbers) that cover the same area. Also two very different prices ! I can see why there would be confusion. Be nice if someone from Garmin could explain.

From your link above (for the downloadable maps) there are two options, basically G3 or G3 Vision - that's the only price difference you see:

The device compatibility matrix differs - depending on whether you navigate (pardon the pun) from the GPS H1 home page (like you did with your link) or whether you start from the marine maps home page (like I did). The part numbers match up in either case. Its just the compatibility matrix is quite different.

I politely suggest that Garmin gets their web development teams on the same page (pun intended!!)
