Bug: waypoints from photos appear in wrong locations on H1i plus

GPSMAP H1i Plus, V 7.07

this is what is written in the manual:

Viewing the location of a photo > open the photo app > select a photo > press menu > select view map.

Expected is to see a dot or symbol on the map where the photo was taken. Instead I see my location on the map and can start a navigation to where to photo has been taken. I don't wish to to do that. I was there just before. On the bottom of this screen are the coordinates. But it is just text. No copy/paste or push a button to see the location on the photo. Is this how it supposed to be?

  • After further testing, I discovered the option to create a waypoint from a photo. It was during this testing that the issue became apparent.

Interestingly, previously synced Komoot highlights via the Connect IQ app made the problem more visible, because the photo-created waypoints would land on top of these Komoot waypoints. Deleting the Waypoint_<date>.gpx files from the gps folder removed the Komoot waypoints from the map, which cleared the visual clutter—but the underlying problem remained:

Creating a waypoint from a photo now places it over 7,000 km away from the actual photo location, even though the photo symbol and coordinates are correct. This suggests that the firmware does not reliably use the photo’s GPS coordinates when creating waypoints, but instead relies on an internal reference point—which can be invalid or missing depending on the device state.
