I'd suggest to buy one from a store where you can easily return the product if you're not satisfied, and just try out the H1 and decide whether it will work for you.
Many bugs have been fixed (see all the changes at GPSMAP H1 Series Firmware Update Release Notes | Garmin Customer Support), but as it's a Garmin product there are and probably will be things that will keep working half or not well at all. Whether that impacts how you use the device is something only you can decide.
I've had a GPSMAP 67 before and that device also wasn't free of bugs even with the updates that came out so far.
