Freezes in USB-MTP mode (H1 model)

Hi,
I connect the H1 to my laptop using a USB-C to USB-C cable. In USB-MTP mode. The USB universal logo appears on the display.
I'll start Garmin Express to find the device. It does not connect even after multiple attempts.

What's worse is that the H1 freezes in MTP mode. Only pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds will get it out of this state. The device will then restart.

There is no freezing in USB-Garmin mode, but I cannot connect in this mode either.

The latest software version is installed on it.

Is it possible that this is just a problem on my end?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

  • It could be a defective cable, did you also try a different USB-C cable?

And are you on macOS or Windows? On macOS, only one application can access the H1 at the same time, due to limitations in macOS' handling of MTP (the communication protocol between computer and H1). So if you already have Basecamp open, and then open Express, Express won't find the H1. And the same for the other way around.

  • Operation System: Win11 Pro N
I tried it with other USB-C cables. Unfortunately, the situation is similar with those as well.
I tried the USB-C cable that came with the H1 with other devices. The cable worked fine. (data transfer, charging)
Windows Device Manager sees the H1. But as soon as I disconnect the H1 from the laptop and reconnect it, it no longer sees it.
At this point, H1 had already crashed.
Only Express is installed on the laptop.
I tried it on another laptop, but the problem is similar.
There was a USB-C cable that didn't freeze when used. But only the charging worked, the Win device manager didn't see it.

  • Could be a defective device (it happens), I’d contact Garmin support and troubleshoot with them and ask for a replacement.
