altimeter auto calibration keeps turning off

I keep finding the alimeter auto calibration turned off every time I restart my unit. I reenable it and set it to use GPS as its calibration method, but it fails to save the setting after the device is power-cycled. I do not see this as normal behavior but is it?

  • This should not be normal behavior. The setting should be surviving a power-cycle. I have tested this on my eTrex Touch 2 (H1's little brother) and have the same result as you.

Also note that with another bug, the Barometer Mode will always revert back to "Variable Elevation" if it has been changed to "Fixed Elevation" after a power-cycle.

The Barometer Mode bug is known but your report of this "altimeter auto calibration" bug was seemingly undiscovered up until your post.

Please report this to Garmin via direct email & also include the Barometer Mode bug if you try it and get the same result as I mentioned.

Garmin probably won't be here in the forums until after the holidays here in the US and when they are here, they don't really interact very often. The more people that report via email, the better chance they will fix it.

  • Yeah very annoying indeed, the setting does not persist on device reboot.

  • I'm seeing the exact same behavior on my end. The altimeter auto-calibration setting won't stick—just another Garmin bug (one of many)

Same here with this newly discovered Altimeter bug. I previously reported the Barometer bug I mentioned above that Garmin was able to reproduce. Garmin has "created a ticket to have the issue investigated". I realize that there are more important issues to correct (like the reboot looping caused by certain mapsets) but in reality, ALL of these issues need to be reported and addressed by Garmin. Users have paid BIG bucks for these units and they should be perform correctly without loss of trust by the user. Users have not created these issues, Garmin has...the user gets to discover and experience and then try to find work-arounds for them or sadly, simply deal with them.
