previously all GPSAM handheld devices comes with support for profiles, easy and intuitive way to prepare collection of settings that optimize your device based on how you are using it. For example, you can predefine Position Format, Map Datum and Map Spheroid as shown on screenshots below.
Why is this important? Well I am proud member of Croatian Mountain Rescue service, as a matter of fact I am the search manager at my station and I take care of the GPSs units, we own around 30 devices mostly 66 and 67 and on all of them I have a bunch of different profiles with different positioning formats that people in the field during an operation can easily change their profile (position format) depending on the type of SAR they are participating in.
Those are mostly 'complicated' user grid position formats that looks quite confusing to the average user. We are not professionals but volunteers, and most members have only basic knowledge of using handheld devices and it would be very inconvenient, almost impossible, for them to set up a format while in the field and therefore we need profiles on devices or maybe some kind of different option or workaround?
Last but not the least, on older devices it was possible to easily backup this profiles and restore them back in case of any problems or accidental deletion, formatting device or if you get bunch of new devices you can easily load those profiles and prepare them in a minute.
