It looks like that H1 getting buggier day by day...

Unfortunately,

as I point in subject, everything is just getting worse day by the day, for example now customizing home screen is mission impossible.

If you try to customize home screen it keeps setting until you shut down device. Once you boot up it reset some data fields on its own.
Before restart battery app /  After restart nothing:

I even tried to reset home screen to factory default it again keeps this default settings only until you restart device?
Before restart /  After restart:

This is completely new, I've been using this device for a month or so and this hasn't happened to me yet. Anyone else having such problems?

Last but not the least the 3rd party data field counter is going crazy as well, it shows now 8/10, although I have only one installed?

As a matter of fact I just noticed it i snow 9/10 :D

Here is how it looks like on Phone IQ, Apps-3; Data-1

  • For the first one, I tried the same thing with the Battery Monitory by SylvainGagnon and not able to recreate your issue, on 4.09. Working okay for me

  • As i said, it getting worse day by day and I finally decide to make a reset to factory default (check another post) , now it is a bit better. Maybe I'm pushing it to the limits or even over but I am using those devicesfor the last 20 years, so it is kind normalno to me Grin

Last but not the least, I paid more than 1k euros for the most expensive handheld GPS ever which is simply not capable of doing even the most basic functions

  • I'm with you, the experience should be better. Again, Garmin puts out a device with properly (or effectively) QA testing it. Very frustrating.

  • That's what I am talking about Rolling eyes

Dear GARMIN if U  need a serious and reliable beta tester before releasing new products, get in touch with me, no kidding

  • Here's one for you to try on the H1 (again, I'm on the new eTrex Touch which is very similar) regarding the Battery Monitor app. I'm not sure what causes it; the unit firmware or the Battery Monitor app itself. I have reported the issue to the app developer who said it will be investigated.

    1. Open the Battery Monitor app

    2. From the black screen with the green charge indicator bars, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to "close" it.

Now try to swipe down from the top of the screen to show the top menu bar screen with the brightness, power off, settings, mark waypoint (etc.) buttons.

On my Touch, the swipe down no longer works...it does absolutely nothing.

To regain control of the swipe-down function from the top of the screen, I had to power cycle the unit...until I discovered this:

When in the Battery Monitor app as above, instead of swiping the app closed by swiping it up, swipe from left to right (on the same black screen with battery charge bar) which will show a < in a white circle. Now if you swipe the app (without reopening it) up and off,it will close properly and the swipe-down from the top function should now work properly. It's at least a work-around that prevents me from having to power-cycle the unit.

See if your H1 has the same issue.

  • Exactly the same here, and not only swipe down but the battery app stop to work as well.

Didn't noticed this before because I usually exit with quit button.

  • You might want to have a look at the forums over at GPSrChive. There's an extensive list of GPS devices & their respective discussion forums, GPSMAP H1i Plus as well. LOTS of info there as well as full listings of current bugs, resolved bugs, issues and tips.

I'd post the link but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to here. Just Google GPSrChive and you'll find it easily. If you decide to post over there, be warned that posts are moderated before they are published.

  • Yeah I know, I have account over there as well, will join discussion this weekend, especially because I'm going to make a test with couple of different devices involved

Something like GPS MAP 62 vs 66 bs 67 vs H1 ve OnePlus 13 (CalTopo) vs Huawei watch GT6 PRO (new chipset, Sunflower Positioning System

But will keep posting here as well because of the GARMIN software team, big thumbs up for the hardware division by the way, wonderful device in every aspect but software is terrible

  • It gets even worse. My unit has completely failed. It’s stuck in the start up loop, starting, blank screen, start over and over. I’ve tried every combination of buttons including the factory reset. No matter what it’s just not going to work. I’m sending it back and revert to my reliable GPSMAP 67. I’m really p… off.

  • That's absolutely unacceptable. If this device is so unreliable and bug infested it could potentially be outright dangerous if you are in need of help. In my excitement for this new device I (foolishly) sold my GPSMAP67i and now I'm regretting it.
