Waypoint Loading Problem!

When copying GPX files with tracks to the New Files folder, they are imported upon device startup, and we find the tracks among the "Saved" items.
But this doesn't work with waypoints! If I load a GPX file with waypoints, the New Files folder gets emptied at device startup, but the waypoints are not displayed either in the "Saved" list or on the map.
Is this a bug?

(H1 Plus,  v.4.08)

  • My H1+ is on the way, will test it as soon as I get it Grin

  • If you load a GPX waypoint file on the device by putting it  in the Garmin\GPX folder, the waypoints will be displayed on the map. However they will not be listed in the Saved Data app, nor will they be accessible by using Find. I've read somewhere else that you will get a proximity alarm for waypoints loaded this way, but haven't been able to confirm this myself.

So looks like another software issue on the H1 / H1i Plus. Best report it to Garmin Support.

  • After some additional testing it seems that with firmware 4.08, the device will correctly process GPX files with waypoints when those are copied to GARMIN\NewFiles. The waypoints show on the map and in Saved Data.

When copying files to GARMIN\GPX, the waypoints are shown on the map, but not in Saved Data.

At least that the case on my H1.

  • This is funny :D

I have quite different situation here, exported from BaseCamp one track with couple of waypoints, nothing especially small gpx file, copy/paste to Garmin\GPX folder nothing happens, nothing in the save data or on the map.

Connecting again, deleting file from Garmin\GPX folder, same file copy/paste to Garmin\New files, reboot and now I can see everything on the map, waypoints and track but in the Save data i can only see track?! GARMIN?!?!?

Please make it possible to load GPX file with waypoints as a new collection, through BaseCamp or manually I don't care?

    Kind regards,
    Teo

  • It appears that if the GPX file contains waypoints only, they get imported correctly. But if the GPX file contains both a track and waypoints, then only the track is imported correctly. At least that is what I'm seeing with two different GPX files.

And Basecamp doesn't know about the collection concept so that will never work. If you want to manage your data and collections, you can use the Garmin Explore app. Import your GPX files into Explore app, and then sync with the H1i Plus.

  • It appears that GARMIN needs to fix this ASAP because it is nonsense to export waypoints and tracks separately for thousands of tracks and waypoints that I am collecting for the past 20 years or so?!

Yeah I know that but again, in that case I am forced to use Android and small phone screen instead of my PC beast with 32" Dell's screen which is quite stupid if U ask me :/

  • If you want Garmin to fix something, contact Garmin Support and explain the issue to them.

  • I prefer to say everything that bothers me publicly.:-D

Will post ridiculous things on all forums I know, hopefully it will help Garmin to sell more devices that costs more than 1k € and not working properly

  • OK, some good news...

I made a couple of tests last night and the only way that always works without problem is to use BaseCamp, just select Waypoints you want to transfer, right click, send to, internal storage, disconnect, reboot, that's it..

    .

  • This may be a way to get by, but it’s not normal that from a GPX file containing both tracks and waypoints, placed in the NewFiles folder, only the track gets imported while the waypoints disappear into thin air and the GPX file is deleted.
