Firmware 9.45

For the first time in version 9.45, Garmin Express displayed in "details" what was addressed in the update.  I appreciate that.  But I didn't understand some of the issues listed.  After the update, the list is no longer available.  If someone has noted the list that I can no longer see, I appreciate explanations of what issues the brief listings refer to.

  • Here is a link to our GPSMAP 67 Series Firmware Update Notes from our product support page: GPSMAP 67 Series Firmware Update Release Notes

  • Thanks AL, but that list does not include 9.45.  Even if it did, I suspect it would just repeat what I saw and didn't fully understand in Garmin Express when I updated.  If you know what 9.45 addressed, please reply.  And if you know what each item refers to, that would also be appreciated.  There were two or three items I didn't understand.  I don't recall what they were.

  • These are the changes, thanks to GPSrChive:

    • Added QR codes to Outdoor Maps+ layer info page.
    • Added support for displaying SOS threads by device.
    • Added Messenger account phone number to inReach plan page.
    • Added sender device to message details.
    • Added deletion of inactive SOS threads.
    • Fixed incorrect position for new points in course creator.
    • Fixed TopoActive maps incorrectly showing update available.
    • Fixed TopoActive map downloads getting requeued after completion.
    • Fixed inReach reaction text not displaying.

The official Garmin firmware update release notes page really lags behind unfortunately.

  • What's the best strategy for avoiding this update? None of the fixes listed look particularly relevant to me, it doesn't fix the issue I've reported to Garmin months ago about custom POI icons cluttering the map at all zoom levels and from what I read on another thread it has broken the ability to use KMZ maps which I something I don't really want to lose.

Garmin Explore lists 3 options for receiving the update:

    • Option 1 Garmin express when connected to a computer via USB
    • Option 2 Garmin Explore when connected via Bluetooth
    • Option 3 via WiFi

I don't use the WiFi connection very often so that one's easy to avoid, but not connecting to the PC or the phone's bluetooth leaves me without any way of transferring waypoints, routes, geocaches etc for my upcoming trip, which is not really ideal.

  • This update also enables SOS on the suspended plan which I think makes it a well worth upgrade.

  • Not for me because I don't use any of the inreach features. I actually wanted a 67 but the Garmin dealer didn't have any in stock so offered me a 67i for the same price.

Not sure if the 67 uses the same firmware as the 67i (with the inreach stuff hidden), but if it did then I'd still be in the same predicament now, existing fault not fixed and a new fault waiting to be downloaded.

EDIT  sorry I'm not sure if your post was in reply to my previous one or not, apologies if it wasn't...

  • I took the plunge and accepted the 9.45 update anyway, luckily the KMZ file I created for the location in visiting later this year still loads ok
