66s and 67i both won't work with geocaching.

I have tried to work with Garmin support and they resolved nothing. I just want their address to ship this junk.... ( expensive junk ) back to them.

  • You cannot or will not be ever so slightly more specific and provide any details as to the issues your are observing?

  • It works but...
I have the GPSMAP 66sr and I had the GPSMAP 67 and both worked ok with Geocaching. However the user experience is a bit low

    • First of all, you need a Premium (=payed) Geocaching account
    • You have to couple your device to your Geocaching account
    • At geocaching.com, you have to create a list with geocaches and add one or more caches
    • From settings on the Device you select a list and can sync the lists to your Device
    • You have to resync the list manually if you change the list on geocaching.com
    • Only the caches in your list show up on your device

Compared to using the Geocaching app on your phone, I think the experience is quite poor.

It would be nice to have a live feed, showing all caches near to you. Does anybody know if that is possible?

    Beware!
I would highly advise against using the GPSMAP 67 for geocaching: the coordinate starts wandering off when you are standing still. This is killing for a game in which accuracy to 1 or 2 meters is essential!

See this thread for more information.

My experience with the Geocaching app on Android (Google Pixel 8, Samsung Galaxy 21) is quite good: it shows the location including the error, and they seem to perform some averaging reducing the error while you wait. Accuracy is quite good is my experience.

  • So much misinformation in your post!

    A. You do NOT need a premium account

    B. You do need a geocaching account to use GCLive, but you need an account to use Geocaching for anything

    C. You can indeed use lists if you desire (this requires a premium account, so why were you crying about that?)

    D. Of course, if you make any changes at GC.com you have to sync them to the GPSr

    E. Geocaches in your lists will appear on your device if they are enabled. Geocaches loaded via GCLive will also appear, if enabled. Geocaches loaded manually via GPX and/or GGZ will also appear, if they are enabled.

    F. You can get a 'live feed' by using the GCLive feature, providing an experience very much like any mobile device.

    U. Suggesting an accuracy of one or two meters is essential is ludicrous. Even the Geocaching website suggests when within ten meters you put the GPSr down and start using your 'geosense'. Anyone that has been at this game for more than a handful of geocaches already knows this.

I am pretty sure you are just trolling and have not actually done any real research on the subject, or you would already know these answers.

TLDR: See GPSrChive > How To... > Geoacache

  • Oke, thanks for pointing this out. Sorry for 'so much misinformation' in my post.

I just shared my experience and asked 'Does anybody know if that [live feed] is possible?'
Thanks for the link to the How Tos. Apparently the menu item 'Download Geocaches' that downloads GCs nearby is not enabled on my device. Do you happen to know how to enable this?

This Garmin site starts by mentioning that you need a premium account for uploading lists to you Garmin device with Garmin Express. Apparently this does not hold for uploading lists from the Device?
And yes, it is a bit hard for me to check, since I have a premium account.

My experience as a Geocacher in the Netherlands is that GC coordinates most of the times are pretty accurate, say withing 2 m.This holds for the GC coordinates as published by the COs as well as the coordinate presented by phone or GPS.
Even if you assume 10 m accuracy like you state I still wouldn't use the GPSMAP 67 because when standing still the coordinate it indicates easily wanders away more than 10. See link that you did not bother to read in the first place.
