Mapshare vs Livemap - What is the difference?

New to GPSMAP 67i and needing some guidance.

What do others use?

Edit - I mean livetrack

  • Answers to many questions about device features can be found in the Garmin Support Center. Check out Differences Between LiveTrack and MapShare for inReach Devices

  • It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want people to follow where you have been, LiveTrack for inReach is sufficient. If you combine that with the Messenger app, people without an inReach device can still message you (but the sender needs to have internet). I find that my family finds it much easier to use the Messenger app than use MapShare.

But if you want others to be able to request your location, or send you locations (or more, see the article Garmin-Chris shared), then you need to use MapShare because LiveTrack for inReach doesn't support all that.

Personally I have kept it on MapShare, but I only use my inReach device to have an emergency communication device when I'm out of cell phone range. My family at home uses the Messenger app if they need to communicate, and use the MapShare page when they need to see where I've been.

But I think Garmin is making things really complicated. Instead of improving and modernising the user experience of Explore web and MapShare, they introduce something new along side it that is completely stripped down in features.
