Has Garmin abandoned the GPSMAP 67i?

It’s been 6 months since the last firmware update but there are still plenty of reported and reproducible bugs (device loading incorrect course, ascent and decent values exaggerated, course point icons messed up, distance to course points non sensical values, to name a few).

Can we expect an update or has Garmin abandoned the device because it is more than two years old now?

  • I reported an obvious GUI issue to them about a month ago. !00% reproducible on my end as well as theirs (reproduced by Garmin Support themselves). Seems like a simple fix. Their 67/67i firmware update page still shows the incorrect firmware update version of 9.90 (the correct version number is v9.10). The mistake has not been corrected since the firmware was released.

I know there are much more important fixes to the firmware that need to be addressed (as you've listed) but if a simple fix to even their website to correct an incorrect blunder can't be bothered with (or even noticed by them), this doesn't give me much confidence that issues will be resolved.

Take that as it is, I guess. Maybe they have too many watches to have to deal with (as well as trolling motors).

  • I was told many months ago they didn’t have the resources to fix a couple of bad bugs I reported so I’m thinking yes it’s been abandoned. I’m done with Garmin now. Why would I spend more money on a watch to see it abandoned a short time later? That’s seems to be how Garmin operates now.

  • Yeah I’m also seriously considering switching from Garmin to brands. I’m fed up with the amount of bugs and inability for Garmin to fix them and the outdated user experience.

I’ve replaced my Edge with a Wahoo ELEMNT ACE, and while it’s not without its issues it perfectly fine for my needs (following pre-planned courses).

But I haven’t found a good alternative for the GPSMAP yet. I did some tests with my Apple Watch Ultra 2 with Footpath and WorkOutdoors apps, but they miss features compared to the GPSMAP/Explore/Outdoor Maps+ ecosystem.

  • I’ve got a new iPhone 16 pro now, I take my mini 2 as backup or my Ocean Rescue plb when kayaking. I may be wrong but I don’t think Apple Watches are as outdoors oriented as Garmin watches are, but I won’t ever by one because I know Garmin just gives up on fixing bugs, then introduces a new buggy unit, to start the customer experience all over again. I still like my 67i and can work around its bugs, but it’s still pretty bad Garmin just gives up on devices that people have spent a lot of money on.

  • very good point, @JungleJim! Sloppiness and carelessness are the words I would use to describe Garmin's attitude towards a certainly not cheap product.

  • Just to note: a few days after my posting that the firmware update version number posted at the 67/67i firmware update page was incorrect at v9.90 (and has been incorrect since Feb 28th, 2025) Garmin have finally corrected it to the correct v9.10. I wonder how they caught that?
