Garmin GPSMAP67i TOPO Map Install/Download Not Processing and or Present on Unit. also Causing Blank Screen On Map When Cursor Moved

Garmin 67i. After connecting my GPS to the computer, Updating and Syncing in Garmin Express I was trying to install a TOPO map. After Express installed it onto the GPS 67i and all steps on garmin express were updated synced, unplugged and reset I went into look at map manager, then scrolled to topo active map. There was a selection of the TOPO map i had installed from garmin express on the 67i saying it was in queue. I waited and clicked on it and brought up a message not enough internal storage. I went back to the Map on the main screen and I moved the cursor one time and the screen went blank with just coordinates on the top of the screen. I zoomed in and out and the screen was still blank while looking at the map. I could access the menu items but when going back to the map anytime i moved the cursor the screen would go blank.

I went and bought a Verified for Garmin Device 32GB Mini SD Card. I inserted the SD card and it was verified in map manager that I had 14 GB internal Storage and 22GB Removable storage. I selected TOPO map and saw the Map i Had Downloaded in queue. I hit menu and selected Removable storage while the TOPO map was in Queue. The garmin then started "downloading" the TOPO Map. after 10 Plus hours and watching the Download complete it went right back to Queue and there was no storage that was used internal or external. I went to the map and same problem as before i moved the cursor once and the screen went blank. I reset the whole garmin and restarted. after restarting I connected to Wifi and connected to the computer to gain access to Garmin Express. The GPS was connected, Synced, and Updated. I went to the Manage Maps button and saw my internal storage had the base map and when i went to the removable storage the TOPO map was also in there. So I synced and updated, Unhooked From computer restarted the Garmin went to map manager went to TOPO maps hit menu selected external storage went to the queue of the TOPO map and it started Downloading. 10+ hours later the External storage was still at 22GB as it was when the download started and the internal storage at 14GB as it was when it started.

I am currently on my 4th reset of the garmin GPS 67i. I have downloaded the TOPO map on the Removable drive Synced, and Updated and still when going to the map and moving the cursor the screen goes blank.

what am I doing wrong in this situation? Do i Leave the GPS connected to the computer for 10+ hours so it can "Download" ? I have watched in map manager the dowload complete multiple times always returning to still in Queue and no storage being used.

Any tips on how to get this going? I have external storage, Synced, Updated On garmin Express, Reset the Garmin Followed all instructions and Have gotten no where but back to a reset GPS.

Thank you for any information or Support

  • First of all, what device software version are you on? And what version of Garmin Express? Make sure both are on the latest available (8.90 for GPSMAP, 7.24.0.0 for Express at time of writing).

Second, I’m not sure what steps you are doing exactly? If you use Garmin Express to install TopoActive map regions, there is no need to use the Map Manager on the GPSMAP.

Note that due to a bug in the software, Map Manager will say that there is an update available for maps installed with Express. But this is actually not the case, Express will install the latest one available.

If the map isn’t displayed, check that the TopoActive map layer is enabled. On the map page press Menu and select Map Layers and make sure TopoActive layer is on.

As for downloading TopoActive maps on the device itself, I would not recommend doing this for large regions like Europe. The download is excruciating slow and error prone. Best use a computer and Express if possible. Also even though you have an SD card in the device and select it as download location, the GPSMAP will download a map to internal storage first before moving it to the SD card.
