Can I use the GPSMAP 67 to show ALL waypoints and manually navigate to them?

I currently use GaiaGPS on my phone to keep a very large number of waypoints for foraging (plants, fungi, etc), and I use it to navigate to these points manually - I look at the map on the phone and just walk towards the waypoint.  I can zoom in and out on the phone in order to get a better idea of where to go as I get closer to the waypoint.

I've been wanting more accuracy than my phone can provide, and it seems like the GPSMAP devices would be good for that.

Can anybody tell me, can I use the GPSMAP device in this manner?  That is, upload a bunch of waypoints via GPX files, see ALL the waypoints on the map at once, zoom in and out as I get closer/further from the way points, etc?

Or can I only go to the waypoint list, tell the device to "navigate" there and then follow the navigation line?

  • You can do both. You can copy GPX files containing waypoints to the Garmin\GPX folder on the internal storage of the device. These waypoints will be shown on the map (the GPSMAP 67 comes with TopoActive maps by default). Note that the GPSMAP 67 doesn't have a high resolution screen like a phone has, so if you have many waypoints near each other it may become very cluttered on the screen.

You can also navigate to a waypoint, either by having the device calculate a route to the waypoint based on the paths and roads of the map, or with a straight line from your current position to the waypoint.

Don't know what you consider a very large number, but note that the GPSMAP 67 has a limit of 10,000 waypoints and 2,000 GPX files.

  • Thanks much!  I think I have just under 10,000 points currently.  Having more would be nice, but I don't need all of them on the device all the time.  I've ordered one, and I'm looking forward to experimenting with it!
