Garmin no longer fixing 67/67i issues

We are sorry to hear you can't hide all the POI Icons on your map, this behavior has been reported to our engineering team.

Sadly, we do not have a time frame for when or if this issue will be resolved, we thank you for taking the time to report this issue. Once we have an update or more information you will be contacted via email.

Thank you for choosing Garmin,

Sadly you had the time to introduce this problem with your 8.90 update, but, but not the time to fix it, maybe you should stop screwing around with it finally as half the time you are just creating more issues than your are fixing.
I recently  received a similar email regarding the page sequence issue as well. I’m sure you would have the time and resources to fix billing issues though. Well I’m sorry to say that finally I’ll no longer be supporting Garmin products either!
  • While I understand your sentiment, nowhere does it say that Garmin won't fix the issue. It's just that they don't give any commitments on timeframe or it being fixed. Which makes sense because Garmin support cannot give this commitment. But the chance of this issue getting resolved in a timely manner... I guess we all know the answer.

Since I purchased my GPSMAP 67 when it came out, I reported a lot of bugs. Some get fixed, most don't. Sometimes you get notified of a fix most of the time you don't. I get the impression there's no close cooperation between support and the engineering team.

Software development has always been Garmin's weakness. DC Rainmaker wrote a piece about it 5 years ago, and it seems the situation hasn't improved very much.

  • Sadly I doubt there will be many more updates as this product is pushing 2 yrs old as of March 2025, and with updates about every 4-6 months and each new one introducing extra issues, I think Garmin is done with it. It’s certainly been a bug infested unit. Just glad I’ve never purchased one of their expensive watches.

  • Software development is also a strength.  Think about it, electronics don't run without software.

  • Well the Montana and GPSMAP 66i both still get updates, and those or 4 and 5 years old. Agreed, the updates are not as frequent as before, but still.

I also have an Edge 1040 which still gets frequent updates and a lot of new features since it came out mid-2022.

The issue in my opinion is the abysmal software quality assurance Garmin have and the inability to have a good software development process. If they would have that in place, the GPSMAP 67 wouldn’t need frequent updates because it would be mostly working without issues. And the engineering team could focus on actually adding new features or improving current ones.

  • Well it’s not Garmin’s strength judging from the number of issues their (consumer) devices have.

I experienced it myself when the GPSMAP 67 was released. RINEX data not working at all. Satellite page showing the wrong info. Multiple crashes when viewing route or course previews, to name a few, total ascent data being completely incorrect. One wonders how Garmin tests these units.

And look at the Fenix 8 release. They just released a new software update that fixes more than one hundred issues (yes more than 100!). The device should never have been approved for release in the state it came out.

  • I just don’t see myself playing the Garmin game anymore. I’m not going to be purchasing products that don’t work properly out of the box and waiting months for fixes and then being told we don’t have the resources to continue to fix the issues, some of which were introduced by software updates that don’t even work properly.

  • Fully agree, I have to say I'm at the tipping point as well. Best vote with our wallets, I guess...

  • Well, you 2 guys (JungleJim and Snow_Leopard) are certainly among the most knowledgeable folks on this forum, so I'm curious -- If you were to part ways with Garmin, what other viable options are out there for a self-contained handheld GPS with similar functionality to the 67i?

I'm also very frustrated with the learning curve on this unit, mainly due to the insanely complicated spiderweb for both internal settings and the external software ecosystem (i.e., Explore, Messenger, Connect, Basecamp...).  I'm generally pretty good with these kinds of things, but the learning curve for core operations with the 67i is maddening.

So seriously, what else is out there, other than defaulting to phone-only solutions?

  • So seriously, Is your google broken?

  • I purchased the 67i mainly because it had inreach and mapping in one unit. Previously I had the Garmin 64st, witch didn’t have inreach capabilities. It was great, but unfortunately I gave it to a relative. I’ve never understood why every Garmin gps map has basically identical features but every new model is released full of bugs, they can never seem to get it 100%. I think as Jungle Jim mentioned they are mainly into their watches now and are basically done with handheld units. Apparently lots of people are using phones for mapping and now for satellite communications with the newer iPhones. The iPhone does have issues currently with satellite communication though, aiming and tracking as well as a glitch where if you have one signal bar, you can’t use satellite or cell service. Also touch screens don’t work properly when wet. Not good for kayaking or perhaps rainy hiking. Also phone screens are hard to see in direct sunlight. Lots of people are using Zolio now, you get a dedicated phone number. I’m thinking about switching since Garmin also just jacked up their inreach plans. I’ve still got my old Etrex 30 which is super light, so great for hiking. If Apple gets the bugs worked out of their satellite communications I may upgrade my phone, I also always carry a PLB with me for backup as sometimes inreach I’ve read may not work. But I’ll never be purchasing anything more from Garmin. I can’t imagine buying a really expensive watch full of bugs, no way. The 67/66 series share the same software and these units still have quite a few bugs. If you don’t use the ribbon menu, you will have duplicate screens as you scroll through the menus and Garmin is ok with that and says they don’t have the resources to fix it, same goes for some POIs as well, they recently had time to introduce that  problem though as it wasn’t present in the previous software version.
