GPSMAP 67i (8.80 firmware) impossible to download map to SD card using the GPS itself

Some asked this same question but for the 67 so it was closed by the moderator. I am having the exact same problem with my 67i.

Intended result: download the North America Topo Map over wifi, with the GPS itself, using a properly formatted and recogonized SD card with over 28 gb of free space as reported by the GPS itself. Once the intended download destination is set to SD Card, and Download is selected, a pop up message says that additional space is needed (my guess is that is trying to do it using the internal storage and ignoring the SD choice command).

I know I could try Garmin Express and Map Installer (although I have a Mac so it is not always the best experience. I can’t understand why the device itself is supposed to have this funcionality but it not providing the promised outcome. Thanks in advance.

Also having this issue, it looks like the device checks for free space on the internal storage even though the SD card is selected as storage location. Best to submit a bug report to Garmin Support.

Garmin have serious issues in their software development process. Garmin released 9 software updates for the GPSMAP 67 series, and 6 of them contain fixes / improvements to Outdoor Maps+ support.

Edit: after some testing it looks like a map is first downloaded to the Internal Storage, and when the download has completed moved to the SD card.

Same problem with my GPSMap67i since firmware 8.80, can no longer install maps to a micro card that meets all requirements and has plenty space , if the topo active map you are trying to install is larger than the free space on your internal storage despite selecting SD card you get the message not enough memory , I have repeated the process on another GPSMap67i with previous firmware and all works fine, i have eported to UK support, but received no replies yet, fw8.80 has caused the issue

Thank you, Andrew. By now, Garmin must admit it’s not a user-side error or the “right kind of card”. Let’s hope they solve it soon,

We are sorry for any confusion, when installing maps over WIFI on the GPSMAP 67/67i if you choose the SD Card as the storage location, files will still be downloaded to the internal storage temporarily before being sent to a microSD card in the device.

If you do not have enough internal storage on your device to download over WIFI, we recommend using Garmin Express on a computer to install mapping to a SD Card. For instructions please see: Managing Maps on the GPSMAP 67 Series With Garmin Express

Thanks for the clarification.

Pretty worthless change to be honest (it worked differently before 8.80). So hopefully it gets sorted in a software update soon…

Hi Chris thanks for the reply , this is know good with no computer to use and in previous firmware version I was able to download maps using WiFi to SD card when internal storage was full , please could we have a fix for this as many people now do not own computers hence Garmin express is not a viable option or a solution that will work
