Can I export saved ambient pressure tracking?

How do I get access to the pressure tracking data saved by the 67i?  There's a 67i option to track ambient pressure.  The user manual provides only a comical note that this information is useful.  I assume this refers to the elevation applet on the 67i where you can scroll along a line chart to see the pressure to +- 0.1 hPa.  That data must be stored somewhere in the device since it survives through power off and on.  And it's probably stored at much greater precision.  Does someone here know where to find the data in the internal storage file structure?  I recorded a stationary track today and checked the \GPSMAP 67i\Internal Storage\GARMIN\GPX folder, but the, .gpx file there contained only basic information.  I'm confused by that since I recall in the past seeing much more information recorded than is displayed by Basecamp in track properties.  My goal is to get a recorded list of ambient atmospheric pressures in the highest precision recorded from the device sensor that I can use for other purposes.

  • I don't think you can get direct access to ambient pressure data. It is not stored in the activity FIT file. Maybe it is stored in a data file on the internal storage but as far as I know it hasn't been reverse engineered. And it can also very well be that the data is not exposed at all, even though it is stored on the GPSMAP 67i.

What could be an option though is to create a custom Connect IQ data field that reads out the pressure data and stores it in custom data fields in the activity FIT file. The Connect IQ API exposes several data items related to pressure like rawAmbientPreasure, ambientPressure and meanSeaLevelPressure. But it requires some programming knowledge.

  • Thanks, JungleJim.  I definitely recall loading .gpx files into Excel and seeing values for many more variables than those displayed in BaseCamp track properties.  I don't see those other variables now.  Has something changed?   Am I recalling .gpx files from an earlier Garmon GPS receiver.  Or am I looking in the wrong place?

  • Were those GPX files from Garmin devices or from other devices?

On my GPSMAP 67 (which I have since launch) ambient pressure data has never been stored in neither in the FIT files nor the GPX files. And the 66sr I had before didn't either.

  • I now recall where I saw the additional variables. They are included in the 67i .gpx files when exported by Basecamp from Internal Storage. Sadly for me, pressure is not among those shown.  Also seems there are fewer values recorded than I recall in the past.  It may be than earlier Garmin receivers kept more data in the .gpx files.
