Update TopoActive Europe incomplete

I recently received my new GPSmap 67i. I have set it up, connect with apps and updated to the latest firmware.

Yesterday I tried to update the TopoActive Europe map via Mapmanager, but did not succeed. Then I updated the map with Garmin Express and all seemed well. It is on Version 2024.10 now.

Now I have only a part of Europe displayed in the map: Germany and all countries north, south and east of it are not displayed. Is that as designed?

So I do have The Netherlands, England, Greenland France and Spain and Portugal. Europe is bigger than that and I would like to have the of Europe as well.

Regards,

   Edwin.

  • In Garmin Express you can choose to install the complete TopoActive Europe (default setting) or just a region. So make sure that you haven’t selected a region instead of the whole of Europe. You can also check in Map Manager on the GPSMAP, TopoActive Europe is around 10GB installed for all of Europe.

Also I think there’s a bug in Garmin Express where the overview image only shows one TopoActive region even though the whole of Europe has been installed. But I’m not 100% sure of this and cannot check right now.

And there’s another bug in the on-device Map Manager where the unit will show that there’s an update available for TopoActive even though you have installed the latest version via Garmin Express.

  • Hi, thanks for your extended reply in a very short time after me posting this!

Version TopoActive Europe 2020.something was installed when I received the unit. So there really seemed to be an update.

I did not see there was a possibility in Garmin Express to choose only a region. Will check on that. Not sure if I recall this correctly, but Express alerted me of this update and I choose Yes to install.

I will check and report back. I hope to see a possibility to install the rest of the map Slight smile

    Thanks again.

  • You're welcome!

If you go to Manage Maps in Express, there should be an option listed in the list op maps to select a region. This is only available for large maps like Europe or North America.

The latest version of the TopoActive map is 2024.10, but even if you have installed this version via Garmin Express, the Map Manager on the device will show that there's an update available. I think Map Manager will only show updates correctly if you install maps via Map Manager itself. So don't click Update again in Map Manager on the GPSMAP, it will cost you a lot of time and will get you still the same maps Slight smile

  • In reply to myself a little explanation on what confused me and how I "solved" this map problem.

Like I said, I updated the TopoActive Europe map via Mapmanager, Looking on the device in "Map Manager - Topo ActiveMaps - TopoActive Europe" I noticed that only part of Europa was installed on my device. So I Asked about that here.

I read all the answers (thanks!) and started fiddling with "Manage Maps" in Garmin Express. There I noticed that there is not one TopoActive Europe, there are three -> west, mid and east. (CONFUSION 1) In the end I deleted all the maps and installed al three TopoActive Europe maps using Express. Panning the cursor around I noticed all of Europe was installed indeed (that panning takes a looong time).

Then I checked "Map Manager - Topo ActiveMaps - TopoActive Europe" and saw that, according to that, only the same part of Europe was installed as was the case when this whole story started. (CONFUSION 2).

So maybe, just maybe, (probably) there wasn´t a real problem after all. So I spend the afternoon solving a problem that most probably wasn't there and learned a lot.

Would be nice if some update let "Map Manager - Topo ActiveMaps - TopoActive Europe" show what maps are actually installed on the device.

    Regards,

       Edwin,

  • See my reply to my own post. Map Manager helped me understand what was going on, but  it isn´t the solution for the real problem.
