Bug in 67i LED Codes

Am I correct that there is a bug in 67i LED codes? Documentation says the flashing green means 67i is in expedition mode. I think that i false since it may also be in full power mode with the display dark.

In one sense that bug would be useful as a warning that the device is not turned off. But in my opinion, a user should be able to distinguish between full power mode and expedition mode without turning the device on in order to be able to effectively manage energy use on long expeditions.

This is especially problematic because of another issue where a 67i set to be in Expedition Mode will turn itself on full power mode without the user’s knowledge. See another suggestion dated today regarding keeping 67i in Expedition Mode.

The manual is incomplete, the LED flashes green when the device is in expedition mode or when the screen is off (Always On Display setting set to Off). It does not flash when the backlight is turned off (the screen is still somewhat visible in that case, depending on circumstances).

If device operation differs from its documentation, is the bug in the device or the documentation; and does it matter? In my opinion, neither the documentation nor the operation reflects good design. The LED should differentiate between three power states -- (1) Off, (2) High Power, (3) Expedition Mode. As it is, the LED only differentiates between (1) Off and (2) High Power or Expedition Mode. I don't think this is a serious problem since a user can press the joystick button to quickly resolve the ambiguity. If the screen illuminates, the device is in the high-power mode. Otherwise, the device is in Expedition Mode if the LED is flashing.

The way the LED works is that it will blink green if the device is in any kind of power saving mode, whether it's Expedition mode or that the display has turned off (which is different from just the backlight being turned off!).

Not debating whether that's the way you want it to work, but just stating the way it currently works...

We're sorry for any confusion that this omission from the manual has caused. We've passed this along to the appropriate teams for correction and it's being worked on currently. Manual changes may seem simple, but we try to keep updates to them at a minimum to prevent too many outdated versions floating around. That said, it can take some time to combine any other anticipated changes to then release a new version.

I have a new 67i can I not turn off the green led flasher at this time?

Nope there’s no option to turn off the LED. But a piece of tape may work wonders

It won’t solve the original problem but the Tusita Silicone case off Amazon is a nice protective case and doesn’t have a hole where the LED is so you will no longer see it flashing.
