My 67i is refusing to be recognised by my windows 10 laptop, correct usb cable being used and usb port is working

My 67i is not being recognised on my W10 laptop when plugged in via the usb port.

Laptop is working, USB port is working, cable is working on other devices.

Is there some setting on the 67i that I need to change, is there a reset function?

Cannot see anything useful in the 67i manual.

Help appreciated

Terence

  • I do not have a 67i. However, I think the following (from the 66i) is going to be the same.

Setup > System > Interface. Whole bunch of options. Select MTP. This will expose the device as a "disk drive" (similar to the USB option on previous units). The rest of the options are intended to expose the unit as an external GPS (for use with Windows applications which can use such a device).

IIRC, Garmin Spanner will prompt when you connect the device. Asking how you want to to treat the device. However, MTP is the quick, reliable to get what you want.

  • Hi,

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply....

The issue turned out to be a dodgy USB cable. What is disappointing is that when I rang Garmin support on Friday the first person I spoke to was less than useful. I rang again and got another person who was a little more clued up. I had to fathom it out for myself though. When I have used Garmin support in the past I was impressed, the jury is out at the moment.

    Thanks

    Terence

  • Exact same problem. The USB cable that came with my GPSMAP 67 was apparently garbage.

  • Not good enough from Garmin. I have found their support line less than useful in the last month, you used to speak to tech folk who knew what they were talking about...
