Anybody using City Navigator North America NT on a GPSMAP 67i?

If so, how did you get the City Navigator mapping on the 67i?

Presently, I can not get the mapping to load from GE to the 67i. I have a 32GB card in the 67i and when I go to load the maps, I get an error saying there's not enough room, which is clearly wrong.

Thanks

  • If Express detects that there's an SD card in the 67i it should ask whether to install the maps on the internal memory or the SD card.

So are you sure the SD card is detected properly by the 67i? It should be formatted with FAT32 file system for the 67i to recognize the card.

There are several ways to check whether the SD card is recognized properly: if your device is on software version 7.60 or later you can use the Map Manager on the GPSMAP. It should display the free space available on the SD card.

Another way to check is to connect the device to a Windows PC and check with Windows Explorer if the GPSMAP has both internal Storage and Memory Card listed. If you use a Mac then the steps are a bit more complicated, you can follow the steps described on https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=4Z2LWo3hB08K1zG8CqHOU7 to view the contents of the GPSMAP and see if the memory card is shown.

  • The 67i sees the SD card. I can seee the SD card installed in Map Manager, I can install Outdoor Maps+ to the SD card.

An interesting bit is that Garmin Express does write to the SD card. I installed a blank, freshly formatted SD card, and I then checked the card in a card reader and saw that GE wrote the Garmin folder and the init file to the SD card. So the 67i sees the card, GE sees the card and has access to it. I can use the card with Outdoor Maps+, but for some reason, GE thinks there is not enough space to install City Navigator even though there is ample space available, and the 67i and GE have access to the card.

So, has anybody installed City Navigator on a 67i using Garmin Express? If so, how did you do it?

  • How I described it is also how it works for me with my GPSMAP 67 and the City Navigator North America maps I have purchased.

If you click manage maps in Express, do you have the ability to toggle between internal storage and memory card? And are you on the latest Garmin Express version (7.21.0.0 for both Windows and macOS)? And are you on macOS or Windows?

Btw the Garmin folder on the SD card is created by the GPSMAP itself, not by Garmin Express.

  • I'm on a Mac, actually, this behavior is the same on an older (4 yrs) MBP and a brand new MBP.

When I click on Manage Maps in GE, I can only see stuff related to TopoActive maps, nothing about toggling between installed memory and the SD card. So that is interesting.

    Using latest OS and GE.

  • The UI in Express for switching between internal storage and memory card can easily be overlooked, there should be two buttons above the list of available maps. Don't have my device at hand so can't post a screenshot.

  • I'm seeing only one button, "My Maps" above the available maps. No option to switch memory locations.  The available maps are all that come with the Topo maps, no CN.

    This is getting interesting.

  • Just for clarity, the problem is that GE says there is not enough space to load City Navigator NT, even though the 67i has a 32GB SD card which it sees and uses for Outdoor Maps+.

  • I noticed a new release of Garmin Express for Mac, version 7.22.0. The release notes include “Fixed an issue with the Removable Storage tab missing in Manage Maps.”. It may fix the issue you’re experiencing.

  • Downloaded v7.22.0 and I am still seeing all the same errors/problems/missing features.

    No joy for this customer.

  • Too bad, it was worth a try.

Have you been in contact with Garmin Support already? I’m not sure other users on this forum may be able to help you with this issue.
