GPSMAP 67 connects to Wi-Fi even when disabled on device

It looks like my unit connects to Wi-Fi even though Wi-Fi has been disabled on the device.

I have configured my GPSMAP via Garmin Express for Wi-Fi, to connect to my home Wi-Fi network. When I disable Wi-Fi on the device itself (Main Menu > Setup > Wi-Fi and set Wi-Fi option to disabled), the unit still connects to my Wi-Fi network. This happens when the device is turned on, and also when coming in range of the network. This I can observe in my network management tooling at home. The latter is even easier to see because when I stop activity recording the activity is still synchronized with Garmin Connect and with Strava (via Connect - Strava integration). In this case Bluetooth is also disabled, so its not the Bluetooth connection between the device and the Connect mobile app.

I reported this to Garmin Support a year ago, and when I asked last week what the status was, it turned out there wasn't any ticket created for this issue.

So I'm wondering if anyone else is running into this issue as well?
