I have just purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 67i and the device no longer supports older Garmin SD Cards and Maps.
For instance, when installing a Garmin GB Discoverer 50K SD Card, you get a “map not supported error”.
Garmin’s Customer Service (if you can call it that) have confirmed that the Garmin GB Discoverer 50K SD Card and Topo map is not supported by their new GPS devices, and consumers need to spend another £150 buying a new SD Card / Map.
Garmin Customer Service “The map is not compatible due to its age, it only supports the newer mapping, this is a limitation of owning older mapping im afraid, you would need to purchase the new maps.”
When asking if it’d be possible to get an update for the map, Garmin respond “Mapping purchased comes as they are and cannot be updated I'm afraid, this is by design, The map you have is not eligible for any updates”.
I haven’t yet checked whether my TOPO France, Switzerland, US, Spain, Iceland maps work, but don’t be fooled into thinking you can use your old maps in Garmin’s latest devices - you can’t.
Options are 1). Don’t buy and upgrade to a new device, 2). Spend hundreds of pounds more buying new maps.
Once again, it’s Garmin demonstrating that their customers rank very low in the order of priorities and the company will use every opportunity to make more money from us.
