67i Yesterday I went on a 9.7 km walk. I recorded the walk with the 67i and the walk was only 6km. In Basecamp the « track » seemed to be in straight lines. The two other recordings with an iphone « GPX Tracker » application and the Canon GPS (GP-E2) were both 9.7 km. The traces were much more zigzag ! I do not understand perhaps what parameters to SET in the RECORDING function. Moreover, I find the 67i manual incomplete and confusing.

But still not overly informative on a lot of the features. I’ll let others inform you on the tracking, as I don’t use that feature too much. I think the 67i can only record at best every 10 minutes, then it will draw a straight line between the points. Maybe that’s why it only shows 6km. In Garmin terminology, two types of tracking exist: "Tracking" means keeping a log of where you have been and sharing that to MapShare via the inReach satellite system. "Activity recording" records on the device itself and stores this info in a FIT file (and GPX depending on settings) on the device. This is explained in the article that Snow_Leopard links to.

As for your issue, my guess is that you're not seeing the actual recorded activity because Basecamp does not see the activities when they are in the default FIT file format. So in order to have Basecamp recognize them you need to configure the unit store recorded activities in both FIT and GPX file format. This can be done in Main Menu > Setup > Recording > Advanced Setup > Output Format. This will make sure that newly recorded activities are in both file formats.

For already recorded activities you can convert them by going to the Recorded Activities (Main Menu > Recorded Activities), open the activity to convert, press Menu and select Save as Track.

Looking at my old Etrex 30, you could set the tracking interval by distance or time, .01 Km-9999 Km, or 1sec-99:59:59hrs. Not sure when we lost that feature. I’ve been on 4.5Km hike with my 67i with tracking on and the track laid almost perfectly over the map trail, but I suspect that walking on roads with right angled corners would look different. That Etrex 30 with an inreach mini 2 is still a good combination. That could be a good design for an inreach mini 3.

You can still set the interval of activity recording to either a time or distance based interval on the GPSMAP 67 (and 67i). See www8.garmin.com/.../GUID-0D29D098-37C4-4AC6-85FA-79FC5989B9E8.html

Ok thx I remember seeing that a while back now. Now after investigating it, I can see I can still set the intervals as before. I am still learning this unit a little too. Thx Jim.
