When exporting (coping) the .gpx files directly using an USB cable from the GPSMAP 67i to a PC the resulting files sometimes have some data-points swapped. This only seems to happen when the "Expedition Mode" is used. When looking at the activity in the Garmin Explorer app the tracked route looks fine.
To 'solve' the problem I converted the activity to a track in the explore.garmin.com website, and shared the track from the Garmin Explorer app.

I took a look, and it looks like a bug in the device software to me. Based on FIT file info this is on device software 5.90.
If you look at the FIT file contents, you can see that there are several records that don't have a longitude and latitude but do have an altitude.
In the GPX file, the trackpoints that correspond to these records (based on timestamp) have some inferred longitude and latitude that put them outside of the logical track. (It may look like the timestamps do not match but that's because timestamp in FIT File Viewer are local time, CEST in my case, and in GPX file they are recorded in UTC)
So best to report this to Garmin Support with both FIT and GPX files as evidence.
