Feature request for GPSMAP 67i (no cursor)

Hello,

I am pleased with my GPSMAP 67i. My previous GPS was a Garmin Dakota 20 (touchscreen).

There are two things I would really like to have in a next update:

1. When viewing the map, I want to the whole map to move when pressing the arrow buttons without the cursor appearing. I really dislike it that the cursor appears. It is a very slow way of moving the map. And it makes the map smaller because of the information bar. I hike a lot and being able to view next sections of a track is very useful. This would also make navigating as quick as with a touchscreen.

2. When the buttons are locked I would like to have 1 button which, when pressed, lights up the screen for 30 seconds. This way I can quickly view it without having to press the on/off button, press Enter and then lock it again. With my previous GPS I could just press the screen and it would light up (even if it was locked).

Apart from the request, are there already options to bypass this?

Yes !

There are two reasons that prevent me from buying the Gpsmap series.

The first one was the off course alerts. Before the 67 series, in order to make it work, it was necessary to transform the track into a version with limited number of points (200). But apparently this is no longer the case on the 67 series.

The second reason is that stupid cursor that makes map movement super slowish.

Yeah, stupid cursor that allows users to highlight and select map features and details.....

You possibly misunderstand the purpose. You need the cursor to select map features (and view details in the information bar). You can also use this feature to mark at waypoint at the cursor location, which is an important navigation feature.

I have'nt bought a Gpsmap but i've already use it several time and i know the purpose of the cursor. I just wish i could disable it when moving the map to speed up an already slow process.

Marking waypoint could also be done with a fix target, only the map would move like some other smartphone app wich are much more ergonomic. A bit silly to move the cursor to the edge of the screen before moving the map in my point of view.

However, I would not expect favorable action from Garmin. ALL Garmin handhelds work this way.

On the GPSMAP serie in order to move the map, we need to move the cursor on the screen by pressing arrow on the unit, wait until the cursor will be on the edges of the screen and only then the map will move.

It's a very slow process especially when changing direction.

I propose a new mode that could be enable/disable with a target on the screen and by pressing the arrow keys, only the map would move. It would speed up a process wich is already slow and serve the same serive as the original mode to mark point or to get informations, etc.
