No GLONASS on the 67i?

Thanks Volker. Apparently there is a potential issue between inReach and GLONASS. Perhaps I should rephrase my question. Has this issue between inReach and GLONASS been resolved with the updated design of the GPSMAP 67i? If not, what is the performance penalty in accuracy with the GPSMAP 67i in comparison to the GPSMAP 67?

I think there is just no big performance penalty in accuracy between 67 and 67i because of the missing Glonass. It doesn’t really matter.

From a first principles basis the more satellites that are available, the better is the performance of the system from the standpoint of accuracy, precision and time to fix. I would think that taking out an entire constellation of satellites from GNSS would have a significant impact in receiver performance.

There's "as good as possible" and there's "better than 1 GNSS and good enough for all practical purposes"., Not making light. Just pointing out that the device supports other GNSS systems.- GPS, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS. Granted, IRNSS appears to be regional. Still, plenty of worldwide coverage there without GLONASS.

Oddly, the 67 (no i) must use the same chipset. No GLONASS there either.

You're right. Must have clicked the wrong button when choosing the device.

Might be a matter of how much filter the manufacturer is willing to use. Cost, form factor, something else? Either way, I don't know of any Garmin iR device which uses GLONASS.
