GPSMAP 67 poor accuracy missing options

I think, that many of you know the gpsrchive Forum and many people report, that the accuracy of the GPSMAP 67 is far inferior compared to the 66sr and also many options are missing, for example the automatical keypad lock when the display turns off.

Garmin will you fix this and if yes, how soon? It is horrible to release such an unfinished device.

  • I agree ! I have just received my new GPSMAP 67 unit and compared a 10 kms long track accuracy recorded by this new unit and by my Epix2 smartwatch. The specs seem to be the same but the accuracy as shown by any map is by far better thanwith the Epix 2. Here are the parameters I used:

    - GPS Map67, firmware 4.40, Multi-GNSS and multibands on, hiking profile, recording frequency: most often

As reported by Garmin Explore/Android: Number of points: 1431, length=10.7 km, time 02:03:00

Accuracy displayed by the unit, most of the time 2 meters, sometimes 1.8 meter

    - Epix 2, firmware 11.28, Multi-GNSS and multibands on, hiking profile, recording frequency: 1s

As reported by Garmin Explore/Android: Number of points: 7412 , length=10.5 km, time=02:03:00

Why the number of points that are recorded by the GPSMAP 67 is so low compared to the EPIX2 ?

Why the GMPSMAP seem to be less accurate than the Epix2, considering that the first one is supposed to have a very performing ans sensitive antena ?

These recordings have been performed on an almost flat  area, i.e. no mountains, no buildings,...

  • The difference in number of recorded points is probably caused by the different recording settings between the GPSMAP 67 and Epix 2: Most Often vs 1 second. I noticed that with recording interval Most Often there can still be several seconds between two tracking points.

What results do you get when you use the same Recording settings on both devices?

  • I wish I could do it but as far as I know it is not possible to set the recording time interval on the GPSMAP67. Isn't it ?

  • Under Setup > Recording you can set Record Method to Time and then Recording Interval to 00:00:01 to get track points each second.

  • Thanks for the tip ! I will give it a try now

  • Hi

I wonder whether you have a chance to test this again. Also, what is your opinion on navigation / map features on Epix vs GPSMAP.

Is it worth to use a dedicated device for that?
