Basecamp for Mac not detecting GPSMap67i inReach devices

Garmin Leslie you are closing all the threads down with GPSmap67 questions as not inReach as far as I can see the issues are exactly the same for the GPSMap67i inreach models with exactly the same issues.
The GPSMap67i inReach model in system settings - usb mode has exactly the same options as the GPSMap67 i.e either MTP or Garmin, I have also tried a GPSMap67i at work and cannot get Basecamp software on a Mac to recognise the device, MTP usb setting on a Mac does not work with Basecamp software on a Mac, will you be adding Garmin Serial to the usb settings on the GPSMap67i that does work with the GPSMap66i and Basecamp for Mac ?

  • Not sure what "yet another MAC problem" means, but fact is that MTP support in MacOS is quite limited compared to Windows.

Basecamp could very well support an improved MTP connection to the GPSMAP 67, but I guess that will never happen as Basecamp is not actively being developed anymore by Garmin.

  • After significant trial and error, the 67i is working correctly for me in BaseCamp on macOS 12.6.5. As others have recommended, make sure that other MTP apps such as Garmin Express and Android File Transfer are completely closed before starting BaseCamp. I recommend turning off both of the options in Express Preferences: "Always keep running" and "Automatically launch." Then plug in the 67i.

If you're still having trouble, try a clean reinstall of the latest version of BaseCamp. Garmin has instructions online for completely removing the old version. Make sure that you back up your data first; be aware that your tracks may lose time data. BaseCamp 4.8.12 indicated that there were no updates available, which was false. As of today, the current version is 4.8.13, which was released on March 31.

  • Dear all

I ran into the same / similar issue. In the meanwhile I figured out that

    - connection through USB C (on both ends) on a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air won't work. BC won't recognise the device. Changing USB modes, using a USB C / USB A adapter won't help.

    - connection with an iMac on a regular USB port works.

All upgrading, uninstalling an re-installing software does not change anything.

Files (*.fit) uploaded by Android File Transfer are not loaded in my device.

Files synced with Garmin Connect are not a useful workaround neither as these are not recognised by the device.

Finally, with the latest version 4813 of BC, all apps closed, device connected, then launching BC seems to work.

  • Not all USB-C cables are created equal, so make sure you have a USB-C cable that supports USB 2.0 (or higher). Some cables only support charging and no data transfer and in that case the computer won't recognize the GPSMAP.

Also make sure you don't have Garmin Express running in the background, as only one application can access the GPSMAP 67 and locks out any other application accessing the device. Same applies when running Android File Transfer.

And if you copy files to the device, make sure to put them in the right folder. FIT files containing Courses should go in the Garmin\Courses folder.

  • This worked for me. I opened my Activity Monitor on Mac and searched for Garmin. It showed me that Garmin Express program was running in the background. I close that program and boom the Map Install was able to recognize the 67i. That is how I managed to install the Maps onto my device.
