MapShare issues

My Gpsmap 66i stopped uploading tracks (in fact all data) to MapShare. I have reset the device several times and verified all settings in Garmin Explore. My subscription is active. The device Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings are turned off to save power.

  • If you turned off BT, it cannot sync with apps like Explore. If you turned off WiFi, it cannot sync when connected to local WiFi. The best you could hope for would be seeing sent track points and/or messages whose addressees explicitly included MapShare.

Does that describe your symptoms? Or something else?

Did this work as you expected before you disabled BT and WiFi?

  • In order for tracking points to appear on the MapShare page, tracking must be started from your GPSMAP 66i. For more information, see Starting and Stopping Tracking on the GPSMAP 66i/67i/86i/86sci

  • The MapShare functionality stopped working this summer. For the last five years it worked OK. I have the Wifi/BT turned off because there is no cellular service in the back country and I don't bring my phone with me - this is why I have a Garmin GPS. The 10-minute tracking interval and the uploaded data is not displaying in MapShare. Satellite messaging works fine.

  • Yes I am aware of this functionality/procedure. It stopped working this summer after five years without an issue. Satellite messaging works fine, with the included location data. For whatever reason MapShare is busted.

  • MapShare has worked well for me including as recently as August 2025.  Like you, I don't carry a smartphone when on foot in the backcountry.  I assume you are aware of the multiple and easy-to-overlook settings on the Explore website that all have to be correct for your Iridium track points to appear.

The word "uploading" in your original post was a little equivocal.  From the context, I think it's clear mean track points sent through the Iridium network and not tracks uploaded later through an Internet connection.
