How change color of GPX track in Saved Tracks?

For navigation, I often use GPX tracks recorded by others. Is there a way to change the track color from light blue to another color? I find it very difficult to see the default light blue track.

I am aware of how to change the track color of a Recorded Activity, and how to set the default track color in Recording Controls. However, none of those controls change the color of a GPX track imported into Saved Tracks | Archived Tracks, which is where I am putting the third party GPX tracks.

Thanks for any guidance/direction!

  • You can change the color via Main Menu > Track Manager > select and open the desired Track > press Menu > Set Color. If I'm not mistaken you can't do this for Archived Tracks.

As an alternative you could also navigate the Track by pressing Find and then selecting the Track you want to follow. The track will be displayed with the magenta color for navigation.

  • Thank you very much for the reply. I couldn't find Track Manager under Main Menu, but that may be moot if it doesn't allow changing the track color.

I finally did figure out how to change the track color for a third party GPX file. The key is where you load the file on the Garmin. When connected to your PC, load the third party GPX file into the root of the GPX folder -- not into any of the 3 subfolders under the GPX folder (Archive, Current and Nav). That was the mistake I made, placing the file into the Archive folder.

Once the file is in the GPX folder, you can navigate to it from within the Garmin device itself, either by clicking Find | Tracks (as you noted), or by going to the Main Menu and selecting Saved Tracks. You should see the third party GPX track file(s). Select the one you want and click the Enter button. The next screen allows you to scroll from left to right from the Info tab, to the map displaying the track, to the elevation profile of the track. You also will see a small vertical color bar to the left of the GPX tracks file name -- that is the current color for the track. If you want to change that color, stay on the info tab (small letter i in a white circle), click the Menu button once, and you will see a list of options. The third option is Set Color. Highlight and hit the Enter button and you will see a color list (the same one you see to change the color of recorded tracks).

Quite the Easter egg hunt! Thank you again.

  • Ah my bad I meant to write Menu > Saved Tracks instead of Track Manager. The other instructions I gave still apply.

But as you’ve discovered yourself you need to put the GPX track files in the right folder on the GPSMAP in order to have the device recognize them properly.
