Awkward battery management on 66s?!??

Hi,

As i said in a subject i have a problem with the Awkward battery management on 66s? I recently bought 2nd hand 66s, rest to factory, update to latest firmware and now I'm facing annoying issue with totally wrong battery status.

For example if I put totally new Duracell AA immediately after boot up it shows 80% than after hour or so it drops down to 40% and after another couple of hours it switch off on its own. Adter boot up it shows 20% and than it switched off again after just a couple of minutes.

And now the funny thing is that if I take out those batteries and put it in my oldie 62s it shows that batteries are still on 100% capacity.

And yes, it is the same ih use alkaline or NiMh batteries..

What can be reason for this?

  • I don't have that device, but you can try this...use NIMh battery. Ensure under System Settings that Battery Setting is disabled. That should happen automatically.

Keep the device on until batteries are fully depleted. Charge the batteries.

See if battery meter responds as expected.

  • I don't have that device, but you can try this...use NIMh battery.

As I already said, I tried every kind of batteries and always happens the same...

Ensure under System Settings that Battery Setting is disabled.

There is no such an option....

and that is not solution at all, there is something wrong but I don't know what...

  • According to the Owner's Manual:

    "Battery Type"

Allows you to change the type of AA battery you are using.

NOTE: This setting is disabled when the NiMH battery pack is installed.
    -----------
Whether this is disabled or not, have you installed NIMH batteries and allowed the device to deplete the batteries?
  • OMG, this is not my first GPSMAP, I know how it should works and I know how to use it properly.

Anyway, as I have already said number of times, for some strange reason this 66s thinks that battery is empty although it is not no matter which battery type or settings I am using. I tried all possible settings do factory rests and tried number of different battery types and producer and result is always the same. After just a couple of hours uit says that battery is empty and turns off on its own. If I put such battery in another device or in a battery test it shows that battery is till more or less at 100%.

Alkaline, NiMH, Duracell, Sanyo, Eneloop, Vartay, Sonny classic or rechargeable it doesn't matter!

  • Well, you don't know how to answer a question. Have you installed NIMH batteries and allowed the device to deplete the batteries?

Your response should begin with a "Yes" or "No", not "OMG".

  • I see you are using the Connect IQ Battery widget. I think (but am not 100% sure) that widget is meant for devices with built-in Li-Ion batteries, not for replaceable AA batteries. Does the behavior you describe also happen when you uninstall the widget?

Otherwise the unit could be is defective. It is not normal for it to behave in this way even if you do not select the battery type in the settings that match the actual type of batteries used.
