Text Labels over Route Waypoints?

Hey folks- labels for vertices (waypoints) for all of my routes appear when viewing routes in the map app. It seems I can turn off almost all other text through the map settings but not the irritating labels over vertices. Any fixes?

  • You should be able to go to the Waypoint Manager app, select the desired waypoint, move cursor to the waypoint name, and select Enter. Delete the characters.

  • Yes. Sorry, I should be more clear: I do not have issues with waypoint markers. You could do as you’ve described, there are also settings in the 66i to remove waypoint marker text across the board.

The issue I’m having is with routes. Each vertex has its own label. I thought vertices making up a route were also called waypoints; maybe not. Anyway, you can see review vertex labels when you view route details in basecamp; usually the route name and then a unique number for the vertex. They are all appearing as labels when viewed on the map app on my unit. Very cluttered. Does not appear to be a setting that allows me to easily turn that off.

  • Ok, I don't think you can turn that off within Routes, however I tried converting a Route into a Course and the pins and labels are not visible. Much less cluttered, with essentially the same functionality. The Route Planner basically uses automotive GPS software, while the Course Planner uses fitness watch GPS software.

One source of confusion is the term "Route". In Basecamp and other outdoor mapping software a pre-planned hike was called a Route. On the 66i, it should be saved as a Track. The 66i's Route Planner is like an automotive GPS. The GPS knows your location and you define a destination. What is calculated is the Route as used in automobile GPS's.
