Basecamp shows tracks in 66i that aren't really accessible there.

I posted this issue in the Basecamp forum at Does Basecamp really show tracks in GPSMAP 66i that are not really there? - Basecamp Windows - Mac/Windows Software - Garmin Forums because I think it's probably a Basecamp issue.  But since I'm not sure of that, I am posting the link here.

  • There was a answer to this question in the Basecamp forum.  The way nearly everyone uses the 66i, it makes two files when recording tracks.  One is in .fit (in "Recorded Activities" applet) and one is in .gpx format (in "Saved Tracks" applet).  The track shows up only once in Basecamp display of device Internal Storage.  When you delete it in Basecamp, Basecamp only deletes the .gpx file.  The track disappears in Basecamp then.  But the next time you connect the 66i to Basecamp, it shows the track again in Internal Storage because the .fit file is still there.  To delete the .fit file using a Windows computer, navigate File Explorer to Garmin\Activities and delete the file using Windows delete.

  • navigate File Explorer to Garmin\Adventures and delete the file using Windows delete.

    Almost, but not quite.

    The correct directory is Garmin\Activities

  • Good catch, atlas-cached.  I edited the above post to remove my mistake.
