66i and BaseCamp

I like to plan trips using BaseCamp. The big screen is nice but more importantly, it works without an internet or cell phone connection. Much, if not most, of my campsites have no service of any kind. I did a download of free public topo maps for Australia (gmapprom1.img on the SD card plugged into the 66i). These show correctly on BaseCamp (with the 66i plugged into the laptop) and make it easy to plan and research using the big screen in the Australian back country. The 66i has a copy of TopaActive North America. I would like use it for trip planning / research in BaseCamp but can not find a way to get it to show up. Is that possible? Why can I see the Australian map and not TopaActive?

I've tried the online tools. They are fine but completely useless without a connection. I know BaseCamp is old and has always been clumsy but it still seems the best option for offline work.

Any suggestions for a better way to go?

Hello RonPNW It sounds like it migbt be a matter of the maps you are needing not being selected in BaseCamp. Please see View Preloaded Maps, Preprogrammed microSD/SD Cards, and Downloaded Maps with BaseCamp for more troubleshooting.

Thanx, I'll try it again. As I mentioned I do get / see the Australia maps that are on the 66i but see no indication of the TopoActive map in BaseCamp. I have no issues using the TopoActive map on the 66i.

Hello Garmin Leslie! There is no forum section for GPS MAP 65s and no section for the new Etrex SE. Can you please add these sections to the forum? Thank you!

There are no Garmin outdoor handheld forums here except for iR devices. I think it is not Leslies´s decision-making power. A general new decision must be made for this at the responsible decision-making level, so far the "normal" handheld forums have not been wanted here (for whatever reason?).

Hello bluefish Unfortunately there is not a traditional handheld section for forums. There will only be inReach sections. Please contact Product Support directly for assistance with your device or visit our Support Center. Support will be able to assist in troubleshooting the issue or escalating it for a possible fix.
