sending message icon stays on

Hello, the "sending message" icon does not go out, even after reboot.  there is no outgoing message, I cleared all of them.  Anyone else seen this?

    This is not a "sending message" icon. It means that the iR modem is active. The device IS trying to communicate with the satellite network. But it is not necessarily sending anything. In particular, the device does an active mail check on boot, and automatically once an hour while powered up.

    In challenging conditions (or if you try this indoors), the device will continually retry the mail check until it succeeds. Even in this situation, the icon is probably not displayed continuously. It may appear that way unless you are paying close attention.

    This is a huge battery suck. But it's a requirement for reliable communication. The moral is "don't bury the device in your pack, try to maintain a clear view of the sky, and so forth".
