So ive had this issue before and surprised im still having it and looking for a simple fix. I "thought" that when I bought the flagship very spendy 66i from Garmin that this may be ironed out, but its not.
I create a route using Gaia or Workoutdoors apps (or really anything for that matter.) Simple routes, one is a one way up Mount Washington in the winter and is under 4 miles long. I cant create a route using the Garmin Explore app because the mapping is terrible and doesnt even show trail names. I export the GPX from my phone into the explore app. I can then open the route in the app and see it in its entirety, this is great! Send it over wirelessly to the 66i, also great! Find it and load the route on the device, excellent! ---Now, when I go to view the route in the map, its about 50% of the actual route and not something I can even use.
Im familiar with the 250 points or whatever it would be called issue. I cant imagine this isnt resolved within garmin especially when I simply point and click a route in Gaia and export the GPX. My previous etrex touch required I basically save the gpx as an image and create a map of it that would just overlay it on the unit. This was good to see the route, but useless for actual navigation. Then I found another sketchy program that would reduce the points to a set number (250) but never quite got it to work right.
This is endlessly frustrating because I want to be able to instantly make a route, send it to the 66i, load and track my progress and be alerted of turns and being off course. I used (still do) an under $5 app (workoutdoors) on my phone and watch. I loaded an entire presidential traverse (20+ miles) in about 10 minutes. During the hike it tracked my progress flawlessly and alerted me if I went more than a few feet off course. HOW CAN I MAKE MY $700 GARMIN DO THE SAME? Please help!
