GPSMAP 66i GPS+Galileo

Here's how I solved the problem.  I disabled Wifi on 66i and disabled bluetooth on my iphone.  I powercycled the 66i and now Galileo works fine.  I re-enabled Wifi on the 66i and re-enabled bluetooth on iphone and Galileo still works fine.  Credit goes to twolpert for the solution.  Many thanks.

while Galileo did work for me from beginning without any problems, when it is on, I am getting frequent 'loss of signal' warnings, 66i beeps and displays notification abt it.

So I get used o switch off Galileo and use GPS only, I do not  need permanent notification saying nothing

Update the firmware with Garmin Express

I suspect it was the power cycle that "fixed" it. But just guessing.

Possibly.  Could be pure coincidence or lack of patience on my part.

This is odd behavior. You would expect that adding Galileo would improve your likelihood of maintaining a fix. Unit is considering more satellites.

I do not know if there were reported problems with Galileo and the 66i. If your firmware is not up to date, then for sure atlas_cached has the right idea regarding the update.

If you are already up to date, or if the problem persists after the update, you might want to consider a factory reset. This is a big hammer. This will delete all user data on the device. And you will have to repeat the outdoor portion of the iR activation. But it does put the device back in its default state. Can help differentiate between firmware problems and hardware problems.
