Creating a route on computer and transferring to device

I can create a route manually on the explore website and then transfer the route to the GPS 66i device, however, the route is usually truncated and the points along the trail all point back to a central location (it is not an accurate representation of what was created on the explore website). I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

This also occurs when I tried to upload GPX routes from websites like hiking project/alltrails - truly frustrating.

I have kept the waypoints below 50. Still has the same problem.

You should not be using waypoints to construct routes. On the Map tab, click on Add Route (plus sign with two push pins). Then draw the line and sync to the device.

If you are doing that part right, then the behavior you see on the device may be affected by your choice of activity and routing method.

I am using the Add Route button on the explore website. I have hiking as the activity, however, I am not sure about the routing method.

The route appears as expected on the Explore app on my phone and on the explore website (via Chrome browser). When I pull up the route on the Garmin device, it truncates the route and still has each point/turn with a line heading back to the a point near the trailhead. If I convert the route to tracks, everything looks as it should.
