Turn screen on with other button than Power key’ in ‘Battery save mode”

Hi!

I am currently on a long distance hike and have been using the Garmin GPSMAP 66i every day for the last 8 months. I always have the screen on ‘Battery save mode’ to reduce battery use. In order to get the screen on, one has to press the ‘Power key’. However, after so much use, I have the feeling this button is getting a bit weak. As there are many more months of hiking planned, I was wondering if it is possible to change this function to another button?

AFAIK, the power button is the only way to do this.

I think this would not be very practical. It is done with the power button, because it is not easy to press it when the device is let say in a bag or in your pocket.

If it would be possible to reactivate with other button, this would mean that you can not have the device in a bag, in pocket, neither just having it on a string around your neck as this will reactivate it randomly all the time.

I agree with Meinrad. A common problem. I never remember whether the device is turned off or in safe mode (e.g. before hiding to my backpack).
It would be better to use power bottom + any other bottom.

And this is what happened after around 450 days of use:

the rubber cover on the power button got ribbed. Which is a very serious problem, as the device is not waterproof anymore…

I think this is a malfunction way to soon for such a de device…

this is definitely to early to break down

however this will happen with every button used for this function, I had to dispose of lot devices like 64s just because of buttons defective
