GPSMAP 66i RINEX

To correct a comment regarding GPSMAP 66i that was made in response to the "GPSMAP 66sr RINEX" thread that has just been locked:

The GPSMAP66i supports both GPS & Galileo (not GPS only as was stated), including supporting observations from both constellations in the RINEX file.

Example 66i RINEX file extract here, in RINEX format GPS SV numbers are designated "G" and Galileo "E": 20 7 18 4 23 10.0000000 0 11G04G05G07G08G09G28G30E01E04E05E24

This is not a duplicate post and does not relate to a technical problem.

It is simply correcting a incorrect and misleading statement made regarding GPSMAP66i capability and relevant to topic.

The comment was made in a separate thread that was started by another individual who had a problem with a GPSMAP66sr however that thread was quickly closed so could not be addressed there.

Please check facts before posting, that's now two in row...

The original post was off-topic for this forum. Garmin is hard-nosed about that and it's up to volunteer moderators to enforce it. I do not know why Garmin does not have handheld forums in the US (they do in Germany).

The original info about GPS only (vs. GPS and Galileo) is from the online user manual. I don't always check the real device. Although it's probably not a good plan, I rely on the online documentation when I don't have time to check the real thing.

The original comment with regard to iR vs. GLONASS (possible interference) does not (AFAIK) apply to Galileo.

Does not excuse my failure to check the actual device. Take it for what it's worth.
