One of the menu entries is also a photo viewer. This was in other garmin devices too, but I never found out what is it for or how can I use it somehow productive.
Can someone enlight me?

Some devices have built-in cameras. Used for that. Also used by geocaching functions for caches which have photos (and for which you downloaded them).
aha! I had never anything to do with geocaching, not even really sure what it is, so did not know it is used there.
I was just wondering about this myself. According to GPSrCHIVE, if I click on a saved photo, and then click Menu, one of the Menu items should include "View Map", but I don't have that listed in my items.
Within the Waypoint Manager, there is a Menu item, allowing me replace a waypoint icon with a photo. I can do this, but on the Map I still get the icon.
"Photos" show up as a choice under Coarse and Route Planners and Find button. At first I thought it was error, but now I think it should be there, it's just not working.
It seems like there is a missing link between photos and the map. We should be able to navigate to where a photo was taken or to a waypoint which contains the photo icon. But that can't be done.
Have you figured anything out since you originally posted this thread?
but where do you put the picts on the device?
I have a Mac computer. I connected the 66i to computer using USB cable. I picked a photo from Photos on computer and dragged over the "Garmin" device on Desktop, and it was imported.
When I disconnect and power up 66i, the photo shows up in Photo Viewer.
OK, I just created folder JPEG on 66i and on sd card
moved some pic into it and as expected it will be shown.
I think there are pict already in some maps material, my maps do not have this
Or if your pic has correct location stored in the exif data, then it may show then the position of the pic on map
yes correct, just had to find one pic with correct position info in the exif.
Selecting then show map will open map and the location of the pic in the middle marked by an arrow
So that is "missing link". I used "View Information" on a photo and it provided no location information.
How do I get correct position info in the exif?
and yes, such pic can be used as a point for navigation, similar as any other points
