Hiding Waypoints on 66i handset

AFternoon all,

I'm trying to figure out if I can hide waypoints loaded into my 66i handset.  For example I have top out locations of various climbs around a corrie rim marked out, but would rather they didn't show unless I switched them on to keep the map clear / uncluttered.  I've tried putting them into a specific collection and disabling it in collection manager but they still show unfortunately.  I could sync it from explore via my phone as and when needed but seems faffy way to do it!

Cheers!

Stu

  • On the explore site, I categorize my waypoints into "collections" and then sync them to the explore app on mt phone.  Prior to syncing from the phone to my 66i, I go into explore and select which collections of wapoints to sync to phone.  I expect the process to delete the unselected collections.

    Good luck,

  • If the waypoints were only in the collection you disabled on the device then they would no longer be visible. Since they are still visible they must exist in more than one location.

  • Looks like a bug to me. The toggles in the 66i collections manager do nothing at all.

  • Firmware version?

    Explore app os and version?

  • @9091799 I've got firmware 8.80 (609013) on the 66i and Explore version 3.0 (617602)

  • Tested this today, works exactly as it should.

Created a unique collection in Explore with a single new waypoint that never previously existed, and enabling or disabling that collection results in that waypoint appearing and not appearing on my 66i.

  • I have all collections disabled and my map is covered in waypoints. Try this .. download the following GPX... Import it in a new collection in explore.garmin.com ... Sync it with your explore app and with your 66i... Look at the waypoints .. then try disabling them in collections manager.

  • I have been testing this extensively,  and can say that data from any collection I disable on my GPSr is no longer displayed on my GPSr, and data from collections that are enabled is displayed.

Test for yourself with a new collection with only a single waypoint,  track or route to see that it works as advertised,  then carefully examine each of your current collections in explore to determine why all data is always visible for each collection.

Either you already have the same data loaded to the GPSr in separate files, or the data is duplicated across multiple collections.

Also test by only enabling one of your collections at a time in the Explore Mobile app, then enable and disable that collection (should be the only collection available) on the device and

  • What you're saying doesn't make sense, because even if I had data "duplicated across multiple collections" (I don't), if I have ALL collections disabled, then they still shouldn't be visible.. Also I've tried deleting ALL waypoints from the device, allowing it to resync, toggled off ALL collections, and STILL the waypoints are visible. So whether they are hypothetically  "duplicated across multiple collections", or even in no collections at all, by deleting ALL waypoints from the unit, allowing it to sync, and toggling off all collections, nothing ought to be visible. But the map is completely covered in waypoints.

As for the idea of creating a single waypoint... I tried it... I created a collection in explore.garmin.com called "XXXXXX" and within that collection I created a single waypoint called "YYYYYY". I synced it with my device.... the waypoint appeared on the device. I then went into "collections manager" on the 66i and toggled off the XXXXXX collection. The waypoint did NOT disappear. However, if I go onto explore.garmin.com and toggle off the collection view ( eyeball icon ) of the XXXXXX collection, the YYYYYY waypoint does disappear, and is no longer visible.
