The inReach remote feature provides the ability for another device to exercise limited control over the 66i. Typically, the other device is a wearable such as a fenix watch. The connection between the 66i and the other device is via ANT+, which is why the settings are buried under Sensors on the 66i.
There is some ANT+ pairing dance that is required to set this up. My 66i is already paired - and I can't find an option (other than Restore Defaults, which seems like a big hammer) to un-pair so I can repeat the process. I believe that the 66i can only be paired with one device at a time. The fenix watches (at least) can be paired with multiple devices at the same time (although I think only one can be active at a given time).
The 66i manual information on pairing ANT+ devices is outdated and useless. I did find this article which appears to indicate that pairing is controlled entirely from the "other" device.
I did go far enough to verify that a watch with no enabled iR devices DOES search as if it want to pair. Since my watch is paired with every iR device I own, I can't test the actual pairing process.
The remote control function allows you limited control over the device - start/stop tracking, see received messages, etc. This article has a more complete description of the features.
thanks, I have no such ANT+ devices, so it is not for me. I was just curious what this setting is for.
