push inreach profile over the air?

I have some hard time trying to push inreach profile changes to the units over the air, meaning over iridium.

While this was normal practice in our delorme explorer fleet, for the 66i this seems not to work, or not as expected.

When I start sync of inreach profile from the admin portal, something starts and I am getting a list of units with note 'waiting for response'

I can not see any action on the 66i. Neither does mailcheck help.

66i outside under free sky. Some 66i get it sometimes after few hours, but nothing can be seen on the unit except checking the settings and they are then correct. Other units seem not to get it, their note 'waiting for response' remains there for ever.

What is the experience? How to send out profil changes reliably as it was in old delorme system?

  • Don't know the answer to this. I know that "plan changes" sync via Iridium. But that's the only thing I'm sure of. IIRC, this requires a proactive step on the device itself (that is, it's "pull" not "push"). I've never done it on the 66i, but I THINK you go here: Main Menu > inReach Utilities. Select the rightmost tab (circle-i icon), and click the Update button at the bottom.

  • thanks, but this can be done, it just shows current plan etc.

What is meant here: make some changes to the inreach profile, like change the trackpoint interval from let say 10min to 20min. Now this has to be delivered to the 66i somehow. If I have the 66i in my hand, I can either mke it via the keyboard, or download the inreahc config file from the web portal and apply it to the unit on a microsd. But if the 66i is in the field I have to do it over the air.

Under delorme, this is simple prcedure. Send out the profile change via Iridium. The unit itself shows infos on its display, saing it is installing new profile and then it will reboot. All within minutes. Unit send conformation to the portal where the update pending is cancelled.

On 66i I can push the profile change out, but sometimes it arrives after one day, sometimes it is still not finished after one day, no signs on the 66i of if something was recieved or not.

After some days, the update pending is cancelled on the portal, but sometimes it is cancelled and profile still marked as need to be synced.

  • This is an enterprise feature with which I'm not familiar. If it's not working, open a ticket.

  • yes probably is, I never experienced other then bigger account.

We are gov financed volunteer org, working all over the world, even in the most strange regions. The users do in fact very little use the devices, they are ordered to carry them and have them powered. They will not be able to make any adjustments. In fact sometimes I would like to have adjustment and settings to be kind of password protected, so they are not able to experiment and make the unit inop.(does this exist?)

If changes are needed, the supervisor at HQ will change profile details to adopt it for the current mission. This is why I am so concerned abt it, as it is standard workflow with our delorme fleet.
